Aguocha Dismisses Orji’s Criticism, Says ‘Win Your Party Ticket First’

The lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has fired back at comments attributed to an aspirant for the same seat, Hon. Chinedum Orji, dismissing them as distractions.

Aguocha, in a strongly worded reaction, accused Orji of seeking relevance by invoking his name, stating that such tactics would not divert his attention from governance and service delivery.

“The young man enjoys chasing clout with Obi Aguocha’s name; it helps him stay relevant,” Aguocha said.

The federal lawmaker further criticised Orji’s past record, alleging that previous opportunities to improve the fortunes of the state were not effectively utilised.

“I am not surprised he described our efforts to better the lives of our people as delusional. He clearly does not understand what it means to serve the people. After eight years of missed opportunities to reposition Abia, he still resurfaces as though the people have forgotten,” he added.

Aguocha maintained that he would not be drawn into a political exchange with an aspirant who is yet to secure his party’s nomination, noting that doing so would amount to a waste of time.

“I refuse to be distracted by his outbursts. I have no contest with him at this stage. He is still an aspirant seeking his party’s ticket—one he may not even secure, considering the calibre of contenders within his party,” he stated.

He advised Orji to focus on rebuilding his political standing and securing his party’s nomination rather than engaging in public attacks.

“One would expect him to channel his energy into redeeming his battered image and convincing his party to hand him the ticket,” Aguocha said, adding that engaging him now would be premature, as he may not eventually appear on the ballot.

The exchange underscores rising political tensions in the constituency ahead of the next electoral cycle.
