The Nigerian media industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular sports broadcast journalist, Temisan Okomi.

Okomi, who was associated with Classic FM 97.3, reportedly passed away on Friday, sending shockwaves across the journalism and sports communities.

News of his demise was made public by News Central journalist, Olawale Adigun, via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. Expressing deep grief, Adigun described the late broadcaster as a significant influence in his life.

“The worst way to go into the weekend is hearing about Temisan Okomi’s passing. I’m so gutted and, at the same time, terrified. This man meant so much to me,” he wrote.

Until his death, Okomi had built a solid reputation in sports broadcasting, having worked with notable media organisations including Lagos Television and HiTV, among others.

His sudden passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans, and members of the media, who remember him for his passion, professionalism, and contribution to sports journalism in Nigeria.

Okomi’s final social media post, shared on April 14, 2026, reflected his enduring love for the game.

“The Champions League is hard, man,” he wrote.
