The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso, has held a series of engagements with prominent African leaders, Nigerian First Ladies and media personalities on the sidelines of activities marking the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.

Among those Anyaso met was former President of Mauritius, Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, who served as the country’s president from 2015 to 2018.

His engagements also included meetings with the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti; First Lady of Katsina State, Hajiya Fatima Dikko Radda; and First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru.

Anyaso also met Nigerian media entrepreneur and founder of News Central Media, Mr. Anthony Dara, as part of his engagements in New York.

The meetings coincided with the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly, which is bringing together heads of state and government, policymakers, development partners, business leaders and other stakeholders in New York.

The UN General Assembly’s 81st Session is being held under the theme, “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all.” The General Debate is taking place from September 22 to 28, 2026.

For Anyaso, the engagements provided an opportunity to interact with personalities with experience spanning governance, diplomacy, development, media and public leadership, while exchanging ideas around sustainable development, international cooperation and Africa’s development.

His participation in the New York activities also forms part of broader engagements surrounding his appearance at a Global Reputation Forum UNGA 2026 side event themed “Beyond Borders, Building Prosperity That Lasts: The Sustainable Development Agenda.” The event focuses on sustainable development, investment, partnerships, innovation and long-term prosperity.

The UN has identified sustainable development and strengthened global cooperation among the key issues featuring during the 2026 High-Level Week.

The engagements further place Bende within wider conversations on how international partnerships, innovation, investment and development initiatives can be connected to opportunities and sustainable growth at the grassroots.

Anyaso’s New York engagements come amid a series of international and diaspora-focused activities, as he continues to build networks around development, partnerships and opportunities relevant to his political ambitions in Bende Federal Constituency.
