Emeruwa Appeals for Patience as Aba Suffers Prolonged Power Outage

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has appealed to residents of Aba and its environs to remain patient and tolerant as efforts intensify to restore electricity supply to the commercial city.

Emeruwa made the appeal on Wednesday through his Chief Press Secretary, Okechukwu Ujoh, expressing deep concern over the prolonged blackout and its adverse impact on economic activities across Aba.

The Speaker described the power outage as an unfortunate development capable of undermining the city’s economic growth, stressing that stable electricity remains critical to the survival and expansion of businesses in Aba, one of the South-East’s major commercial and industrial hubs.

According to him, the disruption could have been avoided if adequate preventive measures had been put in place earlier by the relevant power generation authorities.

He said the State House of Assembly was deeply concerned about the situation and would continue to support every legitimate effort aimed at restoring regular power supply to Aba and its surrounding communities.

The Speaker, who represents Aba South State Constituency, commended members of the House Committee on Electricity and Public Utilities for promptly exercising their oversight responsibilities by engaging relevant stakeholders and obtaining firsthand information on the circumstances surrounding the outage.

He also commended the management of Aba Power Limited, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Barth Nnaji, for providing the committee with relevant information and insights into the factors responsible for the unexpected disruption.

Emeruwa urged the power company and other relevant stakeholders to take necessary measures to prevent a recurrence once electricity supply is fully restored.

He assured residents that the House of Assembly remained committed to protecting their interests and working with relevant authorities to ensure a sustainable resolution to the power crisis.
