Keke Operators Banned From Umuahia–Ohafia, Arochukwu, Owerri Routes

The Abia State Government has placed an immediate ban on the operation of commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke, on major intercity routes linking Umuahia with Obowu, Owerri, Ohafia and Arochukwu.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, who said the measure was introduced to restore sanity, order and safety on the state’s road network.

Ukaegbu warned tricycle operators against flouting the directive, stressing that violators would face arrest while their tricycles would be impounded by relevant authorities.

The Commissioner urged all affected operators to comply with the government’s directive, noting that the restriction was part of efforts to promote safer and more orderly transportation across Abia.

Members of the public were also advised to take note of the new restriction and cooperate with the authorities in ensuring full compliance.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline and improving safety on the state’s roads.
