Opah Clinches Abia APC Governorship Ticket with Landslide Victory

Chief Eric Opah has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election in Abia State following the conclusion of the party’s primary election held across the state.

Announcing the result on Thursday night at the APC Secretariat in Umuahia, the party’s Returning Officer, Jato Lalong, declared Opah winner after polling 126,977 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, who secured 5,905 votes.

Lalong said Opah met all constitutional and electoral requirements of the party and was therefore duly returned as the APC flag bearer for the 2027 governorship poll in Abia State.

The primary election, which was conducted across the 184 wards in the state, formed part of the APC’s staggered nationwide primaries for the 2027 general elections that commenced on May 16, 2026.

Reacting to the outcome of the exercise, the Abia State chapter of the APC commended party members, aspirants, electoral officials and stakeholders for what it described as a peaceful, transparent and credible process.

The party noted that the successful conduct of the primary reflected the unity, resilience and growing strength of the APC in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also expressed confidence in Opah’s leadership capacity, political experience and vision, urging members and supporters to remain united as the party intensifies efforts to win the governorship seat and take over Government House, Umuahia, in 2027.
