Anyaso Urges Nigerians to Prioritise Genotype Testing, Support Sickle Cell Warriors

As the world marks World Sickle Cell Day 2026, the Founder of Chima Anyaso Foundation, and Labour Party Candidate for Bende Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso (Ofuji), has called for increased awareness, compassion, and stronger support systems for people living with sickle cell disease.

In a message commemorating the day, Dr. Anyaso expressed solidarity with individuals and families affected by the disorder, applauding their courage, resilience, and determination in overcoming the daily challenges associated with sickle cell disease.

He noted that sickle cell disorder goes beyond being a medical condition, describing it as a reminder of the need for improved healthcare delivery, early diagnosis, public education, and community-driven support.

According to him, no child, young person, or family should be left to face the realities of sickle cell disease alone, stressing the importance of creating an inclusive society where affected persons are treated with dignity and respect.

Dr. Anyaso urged Ndi Bende, residents of Abia State, and Nigerians at large to embrace genotype testing before marriage, support those living with sickle cell disease, and reject all forms of stigma and discrimination.

He emphasised that collective action through awareness, responsible decisions, and empathy remains critical to reducing the impact of the condition and saving lives.

“Your lives matter. Your dreams are valid, your future is bright, and you deserve every opportunity to thrive,” he said, addressing people living with sickle cell disease.

The Chima Anyaso Foundation Founder further called for a society where compassion triumphs over prejudice and where access to quality healthcare is guaranteed for all citizens.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to use the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day to renew their commitment towards building a healthier, kinder, and more supportive nation.
