Emeruwa Hails New Abia LP Leadership, Sets Agenda for 2027 Victory

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in the state, urging them to remain focused and committed to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the Media Assistant following the party’s state congress held on April 25, 2026, Emeruwa described the exercise as credible and exemplary, noting that it was conducted in line with principles of equity, inclusiveness, ethical standards, and internal democracy, as well as in compliance with the Electoral Act.

The Speaker particularly felicitated the new State Chairman of the party, Mr. Peter Azubuike, expressing confidence that the Labour Party under his leadership would emerge stronger, more united, and better positioned as a formidable political force.
He charged the new executives to remain resolute and undeterred by distractions or actions from individuals he described as detractors, emphasizing the need for the party to stay true to its mandate of promoting responsive governance, deepening democracy, and advancing sustainable development in the state.

Emeruwa also commended the State Congress Coordinator, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke, for what he termed a seamless and well-organised process, adding that the conduct of the congress should serve as a benchmark for other political parties.
Reaffirming the commitment of the state government, the Speaker said he joined Governor Alex C. Otti in assuring the new party leadership of full support to ensure a smooth start and electoral success in 2027.
He further called on party stakeholders and loyalists across the state to rally behind the new leadership, stressing the importance of unity as the party prepares for its national convention scheduled to hold on April 28, 2026, in Umuahia, the state capital.
The statement was signed by Mr. Patrick Uchechukwu Okechukwu, Personal Assistant on Media to the Speaker.
