Gateman Allegedly Kills 65-Year-Old Employer in Ajah, Flees Scene

Tragedy unfolded in the Ajah area of Lagos State on Sunday as a 65-year-old man, Chief Augustine Nwalieze, was allegedly killed by his gateman under circumstances yet to be determined.

The deceased, said to be a manager with Okeyson Transport, was reportedly attacked at his residence shortly after preparing to attend church.

A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the incident as shocking and devastating.

“I have been very heartbroken since yesterday. Something very bad happened to my father-in-law,” the source said.

According to the account, Chief Nwalieze had gone downstairs to the car park area of his home, where vehicle spare parts and a solar panel were kept, when the incident occurred.

“My father-in-law had prepared for church service when it happened. He went downstairs to the car park, near the store where spare parts from his cars are kept, alongside a solar panel,” the source explained.

Concern arose when family members noticed that none of his vehicles had been moved and repeated calls to his phone went unanswered.

“They didn’t hear any car leave or the gate open. His three cars were still parked, so they became worried. They tried calling him, but he didn’t pick up,” the source added.

Suspicion later fell on the gateman after he reportedly gave inconsistent accounts of the victim’s whereabouts.

“When they asked him, he mentioned a friend, claiming my father-in-law had gone out with him. But when the wife contacted that same friend, he said he had not seen him,” the source said.

The gateman subsequently fled the premises, heightening suspicion.

“By the time they went back to question him further, he had disappeared. That was when they began a thorough search of the compound,” the source added.

The search led to the discovery of the victim’s body in one of the flats within the premises. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

At the time of the incident, the deceased was said to be at home with his wife, daughter, two maids and another woman, all of whom were upstairs. His other children reportedly live independently.

Family sources indicated that arrangements are underway to convey the remains to his hometown.

Police authorities have confirmed that the case has been reported and that investigations are ongoing.

Officers have visited the scene, while efforts are being intensified to locate the fleeing suspect.
