Bende PDP Structure Defects to Labour Party as Abia D’Gov, Dr. Anyaso Lead Reception in Igbere

The political landscape of Bende Local Government Area recorded a major realignment at the weekend as prominent members and grassroots structures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) formally defected to the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State.

The event, which took place on Sunday at the country home of frontline political figure, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, in Igbere, drew party stakeholders, community leaders, and supporters from across Bende Federal Constituency.

Leading the Labour Party delegation was the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, whose presence added significant political weight to the gathering and underscored the growing influence of the party within the state.

Among those received into the Labour Party were the former PDP Chairman in Bende LGA, members of his executive council, all 13 ward chairmen, and numerous supporters who pledged allegiance to the ruling party in the state.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Anyaso described the defections as a bold and patriotic decision taken in the interest of the people and the future of Bende.

He commended the former PDP leadership in the area for embracing what he termed a progressive movement committed to good governance and development.

He stressed that politics should not be driven by personal interests or division but by the collective desire to improve the welfare of the people through purposeful leadership and community development.

According to him, the Labour Party remains committed to uniting both old and new members under a shared vision of progress, peace, and sustainable development for Bende and Abia State at large.

Dr. Anyaso also expressed appreciation to the Deputy Governor for personally attending the event, noting that his presence reflected the unity and strength of the Labour Party under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti.

Political observers believe the latest wave of defections signals a growing grassroots acceptance of the Labour Party and its reform-oriented governance approach in Abia State.

Analysts further noted that the movement could strengthen the party’s political structure ahead of future elections, particularly in Bende, which is increasingly emerging as a strategic stronghold of the Labour Party in the state.

The gathering ended with renewed assurances from party leaders and stakeholders to continue mobilizing support for the administration while promoting unity, inclusiveness, and development across communities in Abia.
