Abia APC Crisis: ‘Enough Is Enough,’ Reality Organisation Threatens Faction

Group tackles Chijioke Chukwu-led leadership over alleged intolerance, selective discipline against Orji Kalu

The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has taken a dramatic turn, with the Reality Organisation declaring that “enough is enough” and warning that continued alleged high-handedness and intolerance could trigger the emergence of a parallel leadership structure in the state.

The organisation made the declaration while reacting to a communiqué purportedly issued by the APC State Working Committee against the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

In a strongly worded statement signed by Dimgba Okereke, the group accused the Chijioke Chukwu-led party leadership of allegedly running the APC in a manner that could further deepen divisions within its ranks.

Reality Organisation particularly rejected the attempt to label comments made by Kalu during a television interview as anti-party activity, describing the allegation as politically motivated and without merit.

According to the group, Kalu was asked during the interview whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election and answered in the affirmative.

The senator was also asked whether Governor Alex Otti would win the 2027 Abia governorship election, to which he reportedly answered yes.

However, when asked whether the APC was in an alliance with Governor Otti, Kalu, according to the organisation, answered unequivocally in the negative.

The group therefore challenged the APC leadership to explain how the senator’s responses amounted to an endorsement of the governor or constituted anti-party activity.

“Is a prediction now synonymous with an endorsement? Has political analysis suddenly become anti-party activity?” it queried.

Reality Organisation argued that predicting an electoral outcome and endorsing a candidate were fundamentally different, insisting that Kalu’s comments should be viewed as his assessment of the prevailing political situation rather than an act of disloyalty to the APC.

The organisation further challenged the state leadership to turn the senator’s prediction into a source of motivation rather than confrontation.

It argued that if Kalu’s assessment suggested that Governor Otti was positioned to win the 2027 governorship election, the appropriate response should be to identify the weaknesses responsible for such a political reality and work towards correcting them.

“Senator Kalu’s prediction should provoke introspection, not persecution,” the statement declared.

The group also alleged that the APC leadership had demonstrated selective outrage in dealing with political comments, recalling an article allegedly written by associates of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shortly before the National Assembly primaries, which, it said, predicted difficulties for Kalu even if he secured the APC senatorial ticket.

Reality Organisation questioned why similar disciplinary measures were allegedly not pursued at the time.

It described the situation as evidence of what it called “double standards,” alleging that political allies were treated differently from perceived opponents within the party.

The organisation also rejected the notion that any individual or group had ownership of the APC in Abia, declaring that the party belonged to all members who had contributed to its development and electoral campaigns.

“Benjamin Kalu does not own it. Chijioke Chukwu does not own it. Neither does any collection of political cronies have the authority to convert a national political party into a private estate,” the statement said.

The group warned that continued alleged intimidation, segregation and high-handedness could force what it described as genuine and patriotic APC members to consider alternative structures to provide inclusive leadership for party members across the state.

It stressed that political positions were temporary and cautioned party leaders against interpreting their current offices as permanent control of the APC.

Reality Organisation called for an immediate shift from internal confrontation to reconciliation, organisation and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

It challenged the Abia APC leadership to unite its members, reconcile aggrieved stakeholders, produce a credible governorship candidate and mobilise voters if it disagreed with Kalu’s prediction.

“Prove the prediction wrong at the ballot box,” the organisation said, insisting that electoral victory could not be achieved through threats, disciplinary proceedings or political grandstanding.

The group concluded by warning that what it described as “political rascality masquerading as party administration” must end, stressing that the APC would remain bigger than the ambitions and political calculations of any individual or group.
