Abia Assembly Speaker Tasks Aba South Women on Total Support on Otti’s Re-election

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has charged women in Aba South Local Government Area to give their full support to Governor Alex Chioma Otti to consolidate the achievements of his administration over the past three years.

Emeruwa made the call on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, while addressing women at the Aba South annual August meeting held at the Women’s Square, Aba South Local Government Council, with the theme, “Abia Women Empowered to Thrive.”

The Speaker described women as the backbone of political mobilisation and a critical force in sustaining the developmental strides of the Otti administration, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, education and workers’ welfare.

He urged the women to play a leading role in ensuring continuity, arguing that the gains recorded by the present administration must be consolidated rather than disrupted.

According to him, “Governor Alex Chioma Otti needs our support now. We must not allow the enemies of Abia to bastardise the efforts of the governor. That shall never happen!”

Emeruwa urged the women to commit themselves to the campaign for continuity, stressing that the people must protect the progress achieved under the current administration.

He also expressed confidence that the forthcoming elections in Abia would be free, fair and transparent, assuring the women that they should, at the appropriate time, take every lawful step necessary to protect their choices and resist attempts to undermine their mandate.

The Speaker commended the wife of the Aba South Mayor, Mrs. Akudo Precious Anyanwu, for the organisation of the August meeting, describing the gathering as peaceful, well-coordinated and a reflection of the unity of Aba South women.

He noted that the annual August meeting provides women with an opportunity to celebrate their achievements, deliberate on future developmental goals and mobilise resources for community development.

Emeruwa also made a financial donation to support the women’s annual ceremony and their subsequent community development projects.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscillia Chidinma Otti, said the state government was committed to empowering women to move “from survival to stability, from stability to growth and from growth to economic independence.”

The First Lady, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Mrs. Maureen Ijeoma Aghukwa, disclosed that initiatives such as the Safe Tent Care Initiative and the Ahiaoma Women Economic Empowerment Programme were providing grants and other forms of support to women to strengthen their small businesses.

Mrs. Otti further explained that the administration’s investment in infrastructure was designed not merely to beautify the cities but to unlock economic opportunities and enable women and other residents to plan, build sustainable businesses and thrive.

She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to creating an environment where Abia women can achieve greater economic stability and independence.
