Anyaso Calls for Peace, Unity as Nigeria Marks Democracy Day

..Urges Nigerians to Reject Divisive Politics, Embrace Responsible Leadership.

Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, has called on Nigerians to uphold peace, unity, and responsible political engagement as the nation commemorates Democracy Day.

In a message marking the occasion, Anyaso said democracy goes beyond elections, noting that it represents a collective commitment to peaceful coexistence, justice, mutual respect, and the continuous development of the country.

He described the celebration as particularly significant, being the last Democracy Day before another major election cycle, and urged citizens to remain vigilant against individuals who may attempt to exploit ethnic, religious, regional, and political differences for personal gains.

According to him, Nigeria’s history has shown that some political actors thrive on division by creating distrust and tension among citizens in pursuit of power.

“We must reject such politics. Nigeria’s progress will not come through violence, hate speech, intimidation, or the demonisation of fellow citizens. No election is worth the blood of any Nigerian, and no political ambition should be placed above the peace and stability of our nation,” he said.

The Labour Party candidate appealed to young Nigerians to resist being used as tools for violence, misinformation, or political disruption, urging them to engage in constructive conversations and focus on issues rather than personalities.

He also called on political leaders, opinion influencers, and public commentators to exercise restraint in their contributions to national discourse, stressing that words and narratives have the power to either build or divide society.

“Those who deliberately sow discord and deepen societal divisions for temporary political advantage must understand that they endanger not only our democracy but the future of generations yet unborn,” Anyaso stated.

He emphasised that the strength of Nigeria’s democracy lies in the ability of citizens to manage differences peacefully and constructively, rather than in the intensity of political disagreements.

As the country marks Democracy Day, the Igbere-born businessman, urged Nigerians to choose unity over division, dialogue over conflict, and patriotism over narrow interests, expressing hope that the nation’s democratic journey will continue to deliver prosperity, justice, and national cohesion.

“May peace continue to reign in our land, and may our democracy lead us to a stronger and more united Nigeria,” he added.
