Labour Party Intensifies PVC Mobilisation In Aba, Over 200 TECHRISE Trainees Registered

The Labour Party in Abia State has intensified its grassroots mobilization campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, taking its INEC Permanent Voter Card (PVC) sensitization drive to the popular TECHRISE training camp in Aba, where the party discovered that a significant number of young trainees were yet to register as voters

The development, which immediately triggered concern among party leaders, has now led to a massive voter registration awareness campaign targeted at first-time voters and young people above 18 years across Abia State.

The Labour Party delegation, led by the Abia State Chairman of the party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, who is the engine room driving the party’s growing grassroots structure in the state with the State Working Committee (SWC), visited the TECHRISE camp in Aba where over 800 trainees are currently undergoing various vocational and technology-based training programmes.

During the interaction with the trainees, the party discovered that over 70 percent of the participants neither possessed Permanent Voter Cards nor had completed their registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The discovery, according to party officials, immediately prompted urgent voter education and mobilization efforts at the camp as the Labour Party leadership stressed the importance of political participation among young people.

Party leaders told the trainees that while skill acquisition, entrepreneurship and empowerment remain important for the future of young Nigerians, participation in the electoral process is equally critical because leadership decisions directly affect economic opportunities, security, education, business growth and youth development.

Following the sensitization exercise, over 200 TECHRISE trainees have reportedly commenced the voter registration process, while many others are said to be preparing to complete their registration in the coming days.

The development has been described by Labour Party stakeholders as a major breakthrough in the party’s effort to expand youth participation in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during the exercise, the Abia State Chairman of Labour Party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, urged all eligible Abians who have attained the age of 18 and are yet to register for their PVC to immediately take advantage of the ongoing INEC registration exercise.

According to him, failure to register would amount to voluntarily surrendering one’s constitutional right to participate in choosing leaders.

He stressed that the future of Abia State and Nigeria cannot be left in the hands of a few people, adding that massive voter participation remains one of the strongest pillars of democracy.

The Labour Party Chairman further called on political stakeholders, traditional rulers, youth leaders, religious groups, market associations, community leaders and opinion moulders across the state to actively encourage members of their communities to obtain their PVCs before the deadline.

He noted that the Labour Party is determined to ensure that no willing voter in Abia State is disenfranchised due to ignorance, apathy or lack of information

The party maintained that the PVC campaign is not merely about politics but about deepening civic responsibility and democratic inclusion, especially among the younger generation who constitute a large percentage of the voting population.

The Labour Party leadership in Abia State has therefore reiterated its appeal to all eligible residents to immediately secure their Permanent Voter Cards, insisting that every vote will matter in determining the future direction of governance in the state and the country at large.
