The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has reaffirmed the importance of traditional institutions in promoting peace, unity and sustainable development following a courtesy visit to the Paramount Ruler of Item Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Eze Silas Okeofia Igwe, JP, the Okpi of Item.

The visit, which took place on Friday at the royal palace in Item, afforded Dr. Anyaso the opportunity to receive the royal father’s blessings, prayers and fatherly counsel as he continues consultations across communities in Bende Federal Constituency.

Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Anyaso described the visit as more than a routine courtesy call, noting that it was a meaningful engagement that reconnected him with the history, values and cultural heritage of the Item people.

He described the Okpi Stool as the foremost traditional institution in Item Kingdom, symbolising the unity, identity and collective heritage of the people. According to him, the stool occupies a revered position as the paramount traditional authority and custodian of the kingdom’s customs, culture and age-long institutions.

Dr. Anyaso observed that the traditional institution has, over the years, remained a rallying point for the people, providing leadership in customary affairs while standing above partisan politics as a father to all sons and daughters of Item.

He expressed profound appreciation to His Royal Majesty for the warm reception accorded him, as well as the invaluable words of wisdom, prayers and royal blessings, describing them as a source of encouragement in his commitment to selfless service.

The Labour Party standard-bearer further stressed that traditional rulers remain indispensable partners in nation-building, serving as custodians of cultural identity and vital links between the rich heritage of the past and the aspirations of future generations.

He maintained that enduring progress can only be achieved through the preservation of cultural values, the promotion of peace and the pursuit of development anchored on humility, respect and inclusive leadership.

Dr. Anyaso also prayed for God’s continued protection, sound health, long life and wisdom for His Royal Majesty, Eze Silas Okeofia Igwe, as he continues to provide fatherly leadership and foster unity among the people of Item Kingdom.

He reiterated his commitment to working with traditional institutions and stakeholders to advance the development of Bende Federal Constituency, expressing confidence that collective efforts would build a stronger, more united and prosperous future for the people.
