A 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over the alleged sexual exploitation of her underage daughter, has reportedly admitted making up to $700 from distributing abusive videos of the child online.

The suspect, who resides in Onitsha, was arrested following allegations that she sexually abused her eight-year-old daughter and recorded the acts for online distribution.

According to the police, Mrs Onyeanusia is being investigated for child sexual abuse and child pornography. Operatives also recovered sex toys and other items from her residence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Four children, aged two, three, six and nine, were reportedly rescued from the home.

The suspect’s husband, Ikechukwu Onyeanusia, had earlier said he was unaware of the alleged abuse and his wife’s online activities.

During questioning at a police facility, Mrs Onyeanusia reportedly admitted that she received payments in dollars after sending abusive videos involving her daughter to a foreign contact through WhatsApp.

She said the highest amount she received was $700, explaining that the man sometimes paid her $300 and, on other occasions, $400.

The questioning was conducted by Anambra-based comedian and content creator, Valentine Obinwanne, popularly known as Onye Obodo, who condemned the alleged abuse and challenged the suspect over her actions.

The content creator questioned why she would subject her child to such abuse for financial gain.

While being confronted over the allegations, Mrs Onyeanusia reportedly claimed that other Nigerian women were also involved in similar activities on social media.

She alleged that she had seen another woman sharing abusive material involving two of her children, insisting that she was not the only person engaging in the practice.

However, when police investigators asked her to assist in identifying others involved, she said she did not know all of them.

Mrs Onyeanusia also confirmed that her husband was unaware of her activities on social media.

Appearing remorseful during the interrogation, she pleaded for forgiveness and promised not to engage in the act again.

“Please, forgive me. It’s the devil’s handiwork,” she reportedly said.

The police said investigations into the case are ongoing, while the rescued children have been taken into protective care.
