APC Elects New Abia Leadership in Peaceful Congress, Sets Sights on 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State on Tuesday conducted a hitch-free state congress to elect members of its State Working Committee (SWC) and zonal leaders, in what stakeholders described as a decisive move to strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The congress, held in Umuahia, was presided over by Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Guan, who led the Abia State Congress Committee constituted by the party’s National Working Committee.

The exercise was monitored by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner and the Abia State Commissioner of Police, and was widely adjudged peaceful, orderly, and transparent.

At the conclusion of the proceedings, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu emerged as the new State Chairman alongside other SWC members and zonal leaders through a consensus arrangement endorsed by delegates.

Commending party leaders and delegates for ensuring a rancour-free process, Rt. Hon. Guan described the congress as a clear demonstration of political maturity and internal cohesion within the Abia chapter of the APC.

He expressed confidence that the party is strategically positioned not only to deliver victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 but also to clinch the governorship seat and assume leadership of the state.

In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and leader of the party in Abia State, Benjamin Kalu, congratulated the newly elected officials and applauded stakeholders for their sacrifices toward rebuilding unity within the state chapter.

He highlighted the Federal Government’s support to Abia State and urged party members to reciprocate by mobilising grassroots support to secure a resounding victory for President Tinubu and ensure the APC captures power in the state in 2027.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, pledged to consolidate the prevailing unity within the party and expand its membership base across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Chukwu assured party faithful that under his leadership, the APC would intensify efforts to win the confidence of Abians and position itself as a credible alternative in the next electoral cycle.

The congress attracted a large turnout of accredited delegates and party faithful from across the state, underscoring what party leaders described as growing grassroots momentum for the APC in Abia.
