Gunmen Abduct, Murder Ondo Monarch in Late-Night Attack

Gunmen have abducted and killed the Alagamo of Agamo community, Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The monarch was reportedly forcefully taken from his residence on Wednesday evening by armed assailants and later found dead with gunshot wounds.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said six armed men stormed the traditional ruler’s home at about 7:50 p.m.

“Information received at the Division at about 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, indicated that approximately six armed men stormed the residence of the monarch, forcibly took him from his compound, and subsequently fled the scene,” Jimoh stated.

According to the police, the victim’s lifeless body was discovered a few metres from his residence with gunshot injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.

Following the attack, security operatives were immediately deployed to the area. The Divisional Police Officer, alongside tactical teams, mobilised officers in collaboration with local security outfits, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and operatives of the Amotekun Corps, to comb adjoining bushes and surrounding communities in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.

Jimoh assured residents that the command is intensifying efforts to track down those responsible for what he described as a heinous act.

“The Police Command assures the public that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible for this crime to justice,” he said.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and actionable information that could aid ongoing investigations.

The killing of the monarch has heightened concerns over security in parts of the state, as authorities continue efforts to restore calm and prevent further violence.
