Labour Party Completes Abia Primaries, Affirms Otti, Abaribe, Others for 2027 Polls

The Labour Party (LP) in Abia State has successfully concluded its primary elections for governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the party describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent and devoid of any form of disruption.

The primaries, which were conducted simultaneously across the state’s 184 political wards, 17 local government areas and 24 state constituencies on Saturday, recorded no incidents of violence, according to a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Iroegbu Emenike.

The party said the exercise was carried out in strict compliance with the Electoral Act and Labour Party guidelines, particularly the provisions on consensus and affirmation, which it noted ensured the smooth and orderly conduct of the primaries.

At the conclusion of the exercise, Governor Alex Chioma Otti emerged as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

For the Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe was affirmed as the party’s candidate for Abia South Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha secured the ticket for Abia Central, while Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex emerged as the candidate for Abia North Senatorial District.

In the House of Representatives category, the party affirmed Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah (Isuikwuato/Umunneochi), Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa (Arochukwu/Ohafia), Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso (Bende), Hon. Obinna Aguocha (Ikwuano/Umuahia).

Others include, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe (Isiala Ngwa North/South), Hon. Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh (Aba North/South), Okezie Chiemela Wambu (Osisioma/Ugwunagbo/Obingwa) and Hon. Nwoke Adigwe (Ukwa East/West).
Similarly, candidates for the Abia State House of Assembly emerged through affirmation across the 24 constituencies.

They include Rt. Hon. Emma Emeruwa (Aba South), Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini (Umuahia East), Hon. Uchenna Okoro (Arochukwu), Hon. Ehuchie Ijeoma (Aba North), Hon. Ucheonye Stephen (Aba Central),

Also, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe (Bende North), Hon. Chinedum Okorie (Bende South), Hon. Boniface Isienyi (Ikwuano), Hon. Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu (Isiala Ngwa North), Hon. Rowland Ceaser (Isiala Ngwa South), Hon. Mkpa Oju Uka (Ohafia North), Hon. Nwoke Kalu Mba (Ohafia South), Hon. Lucky Johnson (Isuikwuato), Hon. Kelechi Seth Ebere (Obingwa East), Hon. Victoria Dibumma Onwubiko (Obingwa West)

Others are, Hon. Chijioke Uruakpa (Ugwunagbo), Hon. Lewis Obiayi (Ukwa East), Hon. Ahukanna Joshua (Ukwa West), Hon. Iheanacho Nwogu (Osisioma North), Hon. Fyne Ahuama (Osisioma South), Hon. Chinasa Anthony (Umuahia Central), Barr. Akaliro Anderson (Umuahia North), Hon. Emeka Jacob Obioma (Umuahia South) and Hon. Ume Mathias (Umunneochi).

The Labour Party said the successful conduct of the primaries underscored the strength of internal democracy within its ranks and demonstrated that consensus-building, unity and mutual respect remain critical pillars of the party’s political philosophy.

According to the party, while some political parties in the state continue to grapple with internal disputes and factional divisions, Labour Party members across Abia have remained united and enthusiastic about a process that reflected the collective will and shared aspirations of party faithful.

The party urged members, stakeholders and the people of Abia State to remain focused and united as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

It also expressed appreciation to the National Working Committee, State Working Committee, party leaders, aspirants, security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their contributions towards the peaceful and successful conduct of the primaries across the state.
